Illegal immigration is a fundamental concern that has adversely affected the national security of the US. According to Mark Morgan, Director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States is on the rise. In 2019, the US reported over 800,000 immigrants who entered the country illegally. The issue of illegal immigration is a fundamental concern because according to Warren Richey, illegal immigration encourages terrorist to enter US through the porous spots along the borders. There is a need therefore to develop effective strategies in managing the national security concern of illegal immigration. Enhancing border control and enforcement of immigration laws are the two primary ideas that can effectively manage the problem of illegal immigration in the US.
Illegal immigration can be contained through enhancing border patrol. Border control can be best improved by building a wall to fence off the US border from their neighboring countries. The congress of the US argued that the wall is not a practical approach to improving border control. However, Mark Morgan insisted that building a wall at the border is a significant strategy of keeping immigrants out of the boundaries of the United States.
