The movie Concussion, based on the discoveries and research by Nigerian doctor, Bennet Omalu, generated controversy by suggesting that the game of football, along with other sports, promoted serious physical and even life-threatening injuries to players. A barrage of news articles, texts, and documentaries posed the following question: “Are Sports Becoming Too Dangerous?”
follow these steps:
Choose a sport (boxing, ice-skating, football, rugby, et al), and research 10 to 15 sources generating the pros and cons of the sport.
In your first two pages of writing, create a case for the benefits of this sport. (Keep your personal feelings removed from these first two pages. Only submit the evidence based on your research and carefully document that evidence through in-text (parenthetical) citations.
In pages three, create a case for the dangers of this sport. This writing is not based on personal observation, but on your well-documented evidence.
In pages four should be a summation of the conclusions that you were able to surmise based on the research.
You may include graphs and figures to enhance the position of your essay. These would be inserted as an appendix after your essay and before your works cited page.

The launch of film Concussion created massive controversy as the movie was based on Dr Bennet’s research which claimed that playing football can cause players to receive life-threatening injuries. The research also claimed that individuals suffering from trauma should not play football leagues as it can harm their overall health (Herzog, 2018). The movie also highlighted the adverse reaction shown by the owners of the National Football League about Bennet’s research. The movie highlights the corporate malfeasance and negligence shown by the franchise owners about the player’s fitness.
Benefits of Football Sport
The football sport has many advantages associated with it like weight loss, stronger bones and muscles, prevention of cardiovascular diseases and improving agility and coordination. A football player covers a distance of approximately ten kilometres in every match which makes them physically stronger (Herzog, 2018). In this sport, the player is required to move continuously, which develops strong muscles in the human body. During the game, the player is involved in running, stretching and jumping, which is similar to a physical exercise routine (Herzog, 2018). As the player is required to sprint, run, and walk, it makes the heartbeat of the player strong. Besides, playing football contributes to reducing the blood pressure levels, which has a significant impact on minimizing the risk of heart attack and heart disease (Gray et al., 2018). The latest research studies indicate that the individuals that play football regularly are less likely to be affected by osteoporosis. Much energy is involved in playing football which plays a part in building strength and muscles of the individuals. The football game also helps in weight loss as on average, 45 minute of football game contributes to burning 350 calories (Gray et al., 2018).
Besides, football sport improves metabolism in the human body. The football game involves complex movements, a sudden change in direction and speed, which improves balance, coordination and dexterity in a person (Milanović et al., 2019). Apart from its football game plays a vital role in enhancing sleep quality, minimizing stress and improving self-esteem. With football sport, the social skills of the person are also improved as the player is required to communicate with the other team members and coaches. Besides, the teamwork and coordination skills of the person are also improved (Milanović et al., 2019). With the football game, the player learns how to deal in different situations because the player will experience both defeats and victories. A player is put into different stressful situations in a match which develops fighting qualities and mental toughness in an individual. The training routine through which the player goes through improves the mental capabilities of the person. The football players can overcome different challenges by maintaining composure and focus in difficult situations that may arise during the match.
