What do we do when misfortune strikes?

Essay Instructions:

The guidance document of the short response essay has been attached to the folder. Please read carefully.
in answer to the following question: "What answer does the Book of Job provide as to why Job (and, by extension, we ourselves) must suffer?  According to that book, how ought we to respond when misfortune strikes?"

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

1)  Your argument must be clearly stated in the essay's opening paragraph (= thesis statement). The rest of the paper will be devoted to expanding upon and proving your argument.

2)  You must include in your essay some key quotations from the Book of Job.  Remember:  the quotes are your argument's evidence.  Ideally, your essay should be a balance of your own words and some quotes from the Book of Job.

3)  Break your essay into paragraphs.  Keep in mind that one paragraph = one major idea.  Every key point should have its own paragraph.  Avoid extremely long paragraphs:  a full page is too long.  (On the other hand, two sentences is too short to be a paragraph.)

The Book of Job provides that we must suffer so that we can gain a new perspective of the world and those around us.
When Job’s friends heard about the misfortunes that had befallen Job, the Book of Job indicates that they came to visit him. In Job 2:11, it is revealed that “They made an appointment together to come to condole with him and comfort him.” However, Job realized, soon enough, that this was not the case. His perspective about his friends “comforting him” changed the moment they started blaming him for his suffering. One of his friends, Eliphaz, accuses him of sinning against God by asking Job “…who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off (4:7)”? His other friends also had something to say about Job’s suffering. They were all trying to provide reasons as to why he was suffering, all of which only made Job feel worse rather than comforted...
