There are several career goals for a sales representative, which at the end of a training period, they should be able to achieve. A sales representative’s main aim should be to build sales that will bring along many profits to a company’s goods and services. Sales representative may specialize in selling a particular type of goods or selling goods in a specific geographical area.
One of the major career goals of a sales representative is to meet the revenue target that their sales manager has set for them. The sales manager usually sets targets that should be achieved in a month or a 4 months period. The sales representatives at all times should look for ways that they can use to achieve the desired revenue targets. The sales representatives can achieve their goals by concluding deals that are still under negotiation or by looking for new opportunities for selling their goods. Another career goal for representative is to maintain the profit margin of the products when selling goods. When the representatives are negotiating with the customers, they are in a position to offer a certain level of discount without having to refer to the sales manager. Although they have that power, they are not supposed to give out discounts that will make the profits lower than the set margin. Another career goal for the representatives is to create a good relationship with their customers.
Good relationships help improve customer loyalty and this will in turn increase the amount of sales. The sellers should not just be order takers, but instead they should be able to advice their customers and understand the challenges that the customers may be facing. Another important career goal is to improve and increase the coordination with other colleagues. When the representatives develop a good relationship with their manufacturing, distribution, and administration, they can be able to understand the needs of the customers and give high quality service. It is also a goal for a representative to k now how to deal with competition. For any long term, business competition must exist and therefore the representative should always know the steps taken by the competitor.
