The Secret Structure of Great Talks
According to Nancy Duarte, the power of telling a story is communicating an idea in a way (structure) that resonates with the audience. Duarte also asks presenters to engage and focus on the audience. The reason is that although we are the one in the spotlight when we step in to give a presentation, the audience remains the hero and not the storyteller (Duarte, 2010). The presenter is mentor charged with the duty of helping and encouraging his or her listeners in their journey. Thus, an excellent presentation is a three-act structure, made up of the presenter, audience, and the presentation (tool), that puts the audience at the centre of the scene, encompasses passion and spreads ideas, changes minds, starts movements, and eventually change the world.
