The Role of a Nurse Practitioner Student`s Name Institutional Affiliation The Role of a Nurse Practitioner Introduction Nidsa Baker is an adult nurse practitioner (NP) and works part-time with Chatham Orthopedic Sports Medicine in Savannah Georgia. She offers primary care and urgent care for clients aged 13 and above. Baker indicates that offering safe and cost-effective health care has been one of her professional achievements. She believes in providing holistic care for both the patients and the families. Baker has worked with the facility since last year. This paper is based on the responses gathered from the responses she gave during an interview regarding her practice and the organization where she works. The Organization Chatham Orthopedic Sports Medicine majorly offers specialty care to athletics (Chatham Orthopaedic Associates, 2019). The facility has specialized programs for athletes to prevent injuries. In case sports injuries occur, the hospital has sports therapists to assist the athletes to recover and continue with the game. The facility offers a wide array of services in general orthopedics, pain management, sports medicine, and physical therapy. On average, the organization serves about 5000 patients. Professional Qualifications Chatham Orthopedic Sports Medicine requires various qualifications to be an advanced practice nurse in the facility. Firstly, one must be a registered nurse (RN) who has completed a Bachelor of Science degree. Further, the nurse should have passed the NCLX-RN exam and obtained a certification as an RN in a U.S. state. The nurse must have worked for about two years before applying for the RN program. Next, the RN should then have completed a Master’s program. It is advisable to spend about ten years as an RN before applying for the NP program. After the program, the RN should get a certification from either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) (GraduateNursingEDU.org, 2019). Furthermore, due to the high level of responsibility, the facility requires prior professional nursing experience of a minimum of three years. Licensing and Credentialing Georgia requires RNs to obtain APRN authorization before they can practice as ANPs (Gadbois, Miller, Tyler & Intrator, 2015). Applicants for the authorization must have an active Georgia RN license. Applicants must complete an application form and pay a non-refundable fee of $75 and present the official transcription from the college (Georgia Board of Nursing, 2018). The applicants must be holders of a master’s degree or any other graduate degree that the board approves. It is a requirement for candidates to present either verification of employment indicating more than 500 hours practice as APRN within the last four years or evidence of graduation from a certified nursing program within four years to the date of submitting the form (Georgia Secretary of State, 2018). The applicants who indicate “yes” to questions pertaining legal convictions or any other disciplinary actions by the board require to offer letters of explanation as well as other supporting documents. For the non-citizens, a copy indicating qualified alien status is needed. After notarization of the applicati...
