American choreographer, actor, director and dancer Robert Louis Fosse directed some of the most popular musical works such as Cabaret and Chicago. Fosse pushed the boundaries and was not content with focusing on what was common in American musicals and theater. The Chicago native was a born entertainer who had a profound influence on the American musical theatre who experimented to create his own distinctive dance movements in choreography, and he also had elaborate costumes, which were less common during his time. The choreographer’s signature moves and use of props made him distinctive in the performing arts show business and other choreographers adopted some elements of his style.
Fosse was competitive from a young age and was already participating in the performing art that he was considered a professional dancer at thirteen years of age. Fosse distinctive and trademark style that focuses on synchronized precision was based on burlesque and he performed tap dances in burlesque houses while still young. His passion in entertainment and performing arts continued and while in the US navy he was placed in the entrainment unit where he entertained fellow soldiers. Later on he studied acting in New York, but it was until 1954 when he became crucially acclaimed for his sue of the “jazz hands” dancing style in the 1954 Broadway The Paj
