Research on Childhood Obesity Student’s Name Institution’s Affiliation’s Introduction Childhood obesity is the research topic selected from the three research topics that were proposed in the healthcare research topics. Childhood obesity has increased in both developed and developing countries affecting the physical and psychological health and development of children. Children with obesity tend to have social and emotional disorders as well as a poor academic performance which lead them to develop low self-esteem. The mechanism of obesity development is not well understood hence believed to have multiple causes like environmental factors, lifestyle preference, and cultural, ecological practices. The general causes of obesity are thought to come from the overtaking of fats and calories into the body through food injection. Besides, obesity is believed to rise as a result of taking too much sugar and less physical activity to deplete the fats and calories absorbed into the body. The overweight at childhood extends with the children up to adulthood and leads to infectious diseases like diabetes and heart problems. This paper identifies an additional three articles that support the study of childhood obesity and outlines how their literature review contributes to the study of the topic. Besides, the paper also evaluates on whether there is enough information decision on the effectiveness of the specific research and finally makes a summary of the conclusion of the literature review. The first article that selected for the study is a Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care by Krishna Priya Sahoo, Choudhury, Sofi, Kumar, & Bhadoria, 2015. The journal describes child obesity causes and consequences. The literature review of the article discusses the meaning of childhood obesity. In the article, the study of William et al. 1992 was presented. William surveyed the body fat content on 3,320 children who were in the age bracket of 5-18 years. The study of William indicated that if the body fat of male is 25% and female 30%, then the person is obese. The second literature that was used in classifying children as obese in the journal was conducted with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention which define overweight as one with the 95th percentile of the Body Mass Index for age. The literature also outlines the European study for that indicates that the overweight for children has the BMI above 85th and obesity above the 95th percentile. The Indian research study defined the overweight to have a BMI of 85th to 95th and overweight to as more than the 95th percentile. Additionally, Literature sources were also used to explain the causes of childhood obesity. The paper describes the literature according to Davidson et al. 2001, indicates that the child risk factors to obesity are based on the diet, lack of physical activity and leading a sedentary lifestyle.
