Wedding ceremonies are special events and among important occasions around the world, all culture value weddings and they are conducted differently in accordance to their cultures and customs. Weddings are special occasions when real culture and tradition come to life. A wedding is viewed differently by different cultures, but for whatever reason, a wedding is an event where people celebrate not only love but also their heritage. Although every culture has its own way of conducting their wedding rituals, most culture shares common customs and practice with some having unique practices. Marriage practices among Indians and American vary based on culture, social norms, and religion. These marriage customs revolve around wedding attire, before the wedding, the wedding ceremony, the reception and after the wedding.
Hindu weddings are the most colorful events that start with weeks of celebration even before the wedding. Pre-wedding rituals like mehndi ceremonies, haldi programs, and Sangeet gathering involve singing and dancing in preparation for the upcoming wedding. Wedding ceremonies are a big occasion that involves friends and family members with a lot of singing and dancing during the grooms' procession .The groom uses a canopy called mandap and the bride joins in with the kayandan, a ritual taking place to signify giving away of the bride by the parents.
