ABSTRACT
Precisely, the history of the US between 1865 to 1940 cannot be written without including the influence of the reconstructive period, the populist era, the progressive movement, as well as the policies of the new deal. This paper focuses on these periods and their impact on the political and economic history of the United States of America. It also looks into the implications of the movement on the diplomatic history of the US.
Introduction
The period between 1865 to 1940 recorded rapid economic growth as well as soaring prosperity. The movements enabled the US to dominate global agricultural and industrial power. It also became the world’s dominant economic power. Besides, the population saw an annual income growth by 75% between 1865 and 1900 and another 35% by 1940 (Sawyer, 2018).
Ideally, several cycles have occurred in the United States. These cycles can be explored in detail in relation to their impacts on the above. Brundage (2017) notes that the reconstruction era happened between 1863 to 1877. During this period, the president of the US was Abraham Lincoln. The president provided the emancipation proclamation. This led to the freedom of African Americans in the rebel states (Leonard, 2017). Besides, president Abraham also passed the 13th amendment during this period. The 13th amendment ensured the end of slavery across the US. However, Brundage (2017) notes that the 13th ammendment did not apply to incarcerated inmates. This action opened doors for the fight of rights and freedoms of the oppressed African Americans. It also put America in a position where it was considered to be a proponent of among other world countries.
