What have your reading strategies been like?
In the past reading strategies have largely bordered scanning through the text to get to the main points that are incorporated in any text (Janechek, 2016). It has also been common that where critical reading is involved much of the understanding of the thesis by author is also largely influenced by personal opinion. This has thus hampered past experiences in the way that the text and the theme that the author is driving at are interpreted.
How can you improve?
There is a chance to improve on the critical reading skills. This is relative to allowing the ideas of the author to flow within the text and the general connections towards understanding it. Ideally, the best way to interact with the ideas and the general theme the author is driving at, is to shed any previous understanding on the topic and connect with the argument brought out in the text and the support material.
Which reading strategies would work best for you?
The best reading strategy that would best work in this case, is associated with looking at the thesis statement of the author and following the ideas that are expressed in the argument without bias. This way it is much easier to interact with the ideas of the author (Janechek, 2016).
