Walter lee Younger in his mid thirties dreams of opening a business preferably a liquor store, but his sister Beneatha is concerned that their mother Lena Younger (Mama) will oppose this because of her religious beliefs. Walter sought to use the father’s insurance money to invest in the liquor store, but money preferred investing in a house. To Walter the business will make him more independent making a better man who enjoys his freedom. Thus, he aspires to be like George, Beneatha’s boyfriend who is wealthy and contrasts this with Joseph Asagai, a Nigerian national who is not keen on assimilating to the white society. Walter is obsessed with making money and Mama gives him some of the money he gives it to Willy and Bobo his friends, where Willy runs away with the money.
