My American Story
When growing up, everyone has a dream to have their story read by other people around the globe. This is mostly done with the aim of offering encouragement and to let people know that they are not going through hard times alone. Through the stories, we feel we are walking with the author every step of the way. It helps in relating with some of the experiences in our lives. Bibliographies also play an important role in shaping our future after we read some of the experiences the author has had. This was no exception to Luis J. Rodriguez who wrote a bibliography titled Always Running. Luis was the son of Mexican immigrants. He began his writing career when he was still a teenager. Through the years, he has gained international recognition and scooped many awards. To date, he is working as a peacemaker among criminal gangs.
Being the award-winning and bestselling bibliography, Luis tells a story about a gang member who is still young and how he is struggling to survive in the streets of Los Angeles. He tells it all about how he struggles to get himself out of the gang life. In life, we are faced by circumstances that make us feel we have no way out. At a young age, many of us are prompted to participate in dangerous activities like the crime to get recognition. Eventually, it becomes hard detaching yourself from the life you have become used to. Through telling his American story, Luis gives the readers hope and teaches a lesson to our generation. Through the memoir, Luis tries to tell us that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The essay discusses Luis J. Rodriguez's Always Running and self-reflection on the book.
In a nutshell, the memoir explores the different factors that sway adolescents into becoming gang members and the problems that are associated with gang life. He explores the different social economic problems that they face while in crime. Serving himself on the plate as an example, Luis takes us on a journey of a stormy adolescence period where he almost went to prison and lost his life. Rodriguez became a member of the first gang when he was eleven years old. By the time he was eighteen, joined his first gang at age eleven, and by age eighteen, he was already an expert in killing people, escaping from the police and drug overdose. It reached a point where he thought he had no way out as he watched his friends lose their lives at a very young age. He knew he could not escape the fate and was waiting for his turn. He turns his life around after killing an innocent man as a way of getting initiated into a new gang. After the murder, he was taken to jail where he started thinking of turning his life around.
I had a hard time growing up as a child. The reason for this is because my mum was from the most hated tribe around the neighbourhood.
