In the bible, when a kingdom went against the terms of a covenant agreement, the Lord sent emissaries to warn them regarding the judgment ahead and the curses that were to follow (Campbell, 2012). If the nation did not listen to the warning and continue with their wicked ways, the emissaries would demand a covenant lawsuit against the people of that kingdom. Biblically, the prophets of God played the role of emissaries. Their main objective was to ensure that the nations of the earth obeyed the covenant requirements. In this regard, the prophets play the role of God’s prosecutors to convey the message of the covenant lawsuit against the offending people of a specific nation. In all the covenant lawsuits, the holy prophets addressed the generation in which the curses would affect. Some of the fair trials in the bible are in the books of Hosea 4, Micah 6:1-8, and Isaiah 3:13-26 (Campbell, 2012).
According to Campbell (2012), Hosea 4 illustrates the covenant lawsuit against the Israelites. Chapter 4 explains why God is rejecting the people of the Northern Israelite kingdom by metaphorically comparing them to an unfaithful wife. Hosea delivers the Lord’s lawsuit against the people of Israel for their defiance of God and their unfaithfulness. The prophet illustrates that all the people of Israel and the animals will perish, and the land will mourn. Micah 6:1-8 emphasizes the steps the Israelites have to take to mend their broken relationship with God (Campbell, 2012). Prophet Micah invites the people of Israel to plead their case before God by going on a religious journey of reconciliation with their creator and their neighbors.
