The three men had experienced a significant amount of challenges in their lives. The doctors themselves wrote the Pact. The authors of the book were Dr. Sampson Davis, Dr. Rameck Hunt, and Dr. George Jenkins. The authors, in the book, expressed how they had assisted one another through their lives, especially with regards to education. In essence, all the men had set visions of becoming doctors. As a result of their similar aspirations in life, they all endeavored to assist one another with their studies to ultimately fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors. Before becoming doctors, all of them had different lifestyles, which acted to stand in their ways towards achieving their goals. This paper focuses Dr. Sampson Davis, also referred to as Sam, with regards to how he was able to explore the characters of determination and discipline to overcome his drug problem and ultimately become a doctor. In the story, Sam exhibited a significant level of discipline that led to his success. He had set the goal of becoming a doctor and was working towards attaining the goal. In essence, despite the fact that there were factors that could the subject of the discipline that Sam exhibited is portrayed by the fact that in the instances that he did not perform well he took his time to consult his professors in the attempt of ascertaining the possible ways that he could use in order to perform better in his classes (Davis, Jenkins, & Hunt, 2003) .
