Mill’s logic in the argument that drugs should be legalized is self defeating. In his opinion, the drugs war is losing speed and will soon be out done by events in the social world. Even though the legislations have been designed to jail those who are found to use drugs and by extension cause disturbance the correction facilities are now full with the drug offenders, but the drugs are still finding their way into the country, through the borders. As such the drugs should be legalized and controlled by the government, while the addicts are assisted by the government. In a real world this principle can never work. If the corrections facilities are to be depopulated, there should be some massive education on the use of the drugs before any one uses them, that way every other use will be responsible. Legalising the drugs will not work as well considering that the black market will rise once more to supply the unregulated drugs, while those that cannot afford will still commit crime to feed their habits. The idea of the addicts being helped by the government is bad, since there are facilities that have been set aside for technicalities of the kind. The problem lies with the large numbers that could result to drugs use once they have the freedom to do the same without the restrictions of the laws. The idea of directly affecting the other persons that are not using the drug is also blurry, as it does not take into account aspects such as role modelling.
