Planning Strategy for Persuasive Speech

Develop a planning strategy for your persuasive speech based on the following four criteria for an effective speech:
need for credibility
need for intellectual stimulation
need for creativity
need for relevance
Use these criteria to answer the following questions about your own speech:
How would you demonstrate that you are a credible speaker on this subject?
How would you keep the audience thinking and learning about your topic?
How would you make the speech creative?
How would you demonstrate that this topic is relevant to the audience’s needs and interests?
Be specific in your answers. For instance, don’t just say you are a credible speaker because you have done a lot of research. You need to give us what sources you are using and how you have determined they are credible.

Part I: Speech Introduction
I. (Attention-getting statement): Why should anyone vote? Because this is eligible voters express their commitment to democracy.
II. (Establish credibility): I am an eligible voter, and I evaluate those seeking elective posts based on their performance and proposals.
III. (Relevancy statement): Undergraduate college students are one group, who are among the first time voters, but their participation rates are low and yet voting influences policy decisions.
IV. (Central idea): Voters exercise their right when voting as they choose candidates with their preferred policy proposals, and voting affects public expenditure decisions.
Body
I. Voting is a right, and registered eligible can exercise the right
1. Voting allows one to make their voice heard, express their opinions and suggestions, and disagreements, while leaders are held accountable.
2. Going to vote does not mean belonging to a political party. It is simply an act of citizen participation that people exercise according to our ideals.
II. Voting is about supporting a proposal or a candidate when considering the best interests
1. Before going to vote, one must consider their needs and desires and evaluate which party or proposal is the best option for them, the community, and the country.
2. Voting makes people participate in the decisions made by local and national leaders, and it is important to be informed about the proposals offered by each party or candidate.
III. Voting affects how money is spent in a region
1. Voting is important as the elected officials pay for public services and pay for other public goods and services such as education, streets, highways safety, and health and welfare programs.
2. Elected officials at the local, state and federal levels influence how money is invested in education, job creation, youth programs, and the environment. They may also affect how federal funding from taxes is spent.
Part II: Conclusion
I. Voting is a democratic right where voters choose their preferred candidates and proposals. Electing capable and honest people who are transparent and focusing on effective governance is likely to improve voters’ lives since the elected officials are acceptable and actualize their proposals. The officials also influence the use of public funds and taxation policies, which can affect the voters’ quality of life.
