PLANET OF THE APES FILM
Planet of the Apes is an American science fiction film released in 1968 and directed by Franklin J. Schaffner starring renowned actors and actresses like Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall and Linda Harrison among others. The film has been termed to contain crazy and imaginative stories and scenes about time travel and animals being given abilities that they do not actually have. However, this research proves the validity of the argument that the film is a representation of real life themes and an examination of the same themes to ensure that they are understandable, reasonable and realistic. These two main themes discussed in this analysis are the themes of first, evolution and human devolution and the theme of racism in relation to war. Moreover, the research seeks to expand on the ways used by the filmmakers to evaluate and examine the themes.
The first main theme from the film is evolution and devolution. Another theme running throughout the film is racism. Watching the film, one is able to clearly reimagine certain aspects of American racism from its founding such as slavery of the African Americans, the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Civil War. In the film, some group of monkeys wants to live in peace and coexistence with the human beings in the same land but the two parties are actually living from a fearful mindset of the other. Due to fear, apes want to enslave and kill human beings in order to ensure their safety and to make the scarce resources feed their kind and the coming generations. On the other hand, when given an opportunity, human beings would also do the same to the apes with the same reasons in mind. These are two races living in the same environment and the othe...
