The study of permafrost and the issues surrounding the development of permafrost is not a new phenomenon; however, due to the new heat waves, improved technology and the growing trend of an environmentally friendly economy, the study has gained popularity lately. More organizations that are private are studying the phenomenon to understand what needs to be done in order to reduce the rate of emissions and the heat wave currently being experienced. Improved technology has also made it easy for an individual to continue with the study since they can now easily move and have better equipment's unlike in the past and hence new knowledge every day. Formation of the patterned ground is one of the popular subtopics; however; there is the risk of the vegetation composition, which has in a major way changed with the decrease in the permafrost.
