The New Deal Strengthens Labor
Introduction  
           In the early 1930s, the policies that made up the New Deal began to give the labor movement the momentum needed to strengthen unions and bring labor into a new era of increasing the rights of workers. One major policy of the New Deal era policy above all others that helped aid in this great labor revival was the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA). Other policies that assisted in the growth and eventual strength of the organized labor movement were those that created the most jobs within the labor industry. Three of the policies that helped the most were the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC), the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) and the Civil Work Administration (CWA).
           The First New Deal allowed for labor to organize for the first time and cut unemployment across the country, which allowed for labor organizations to grow during 1933 and 1934. New Deal programs such as the Civilian Conservation Corps., the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, the Civil Workers Administration, and most importantly, the National Industrial Recovery Act allowed for this rebound in labor to occur over these two years of the early 1930s.
The First New Deal & The Labor Movement
           The National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 was an instrumental law that allowed labor to organize for the first time without repercussions from employers and corporations. for doing so. The NIRA mandated that industrial production and price levels be settled by each industry. The act also established minimum wage rates for different occupations within labor industries across the country for the first time. A maximum number of work hours were set across all of the labor industry for the first time as well to give workers a fairer shake in the labor they were performing.
           A significant part of NIRA is The piece of the law that gives labor its first boost towards a resurgence within workforces across America is, Section 7a. This section is what specifically dictates that laborers are allowed workers to organize into unions nationwide for the first time in the nation’s labor history.  Section 7a was a lifeline to a struggling labor movement that was decimated by depression-era employment and economic uncertainty from coast to coast. Allowing unions to organize gave those searching for stable employment the chance to find it, as well as giving the nation economic security. overall. Section 7a of the NIRA is the first piece of a swift rebound in the labor movement that other New Deal Era projects and programs will carry forward along with the workers themselves (Slott, Week 11).
           Once labor began to unionize, strikes followed across the nation. Various industries from mineworkers to the textile industry used their new collective leverage to get both; better working conditions and benefits from their employers.
