Describe how alignment between the values of an organization and the values of the nurse impact nurse engagement and patient outcomes. Discuss how an individual can use effective communication techniques to overcome workplace challenges, encourage collaboration across groups, and promote effective problem-solving. Identify a specific instance from your own professional experience in which the values of the organization and the values of the individual nurses did or did not align. Describe the impact this had on nurse engagement and patient outcomes. While GCU style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using GCU documentation guidelines, which can be found in the GCU Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. This assignment uses a grading rubric. There is a direct link between the culture within any organization and their values. These two are the driving forces behind the achievement of corporate goals, whether long-term or in the short-term. The culture is simply the actions that the people within a given organization take and the meaning which these staffs attach to their actions at their work place (Carpenito, 2009). All the new members are taught the collective behavior of the staff in the organization together with the common assumptions that drive the staff. The organizations values are part of these cultures that are formed at the work place for all the staff to follow. As such, it is not possible to separate the cultures of the organizations and the values that the organizations strives to keep alive, since they are part of the same cloth. The values that any medical institution holds, are supposed to help the nurse to identify what is important to say the hospital and what is not, with reference to the goals that have been set in place. For the staff such as the nurses in a hospital want to perform at their very best within the organizations setting to realize their own goals and those of the organization, they have to align their goals and values to those of the organization. Failure to align the nurses’ values with those of the organization will only lead to conflict of interest and eventually dissatisfaction of the organization, the nurse and the patients. The values alignment helps put into perspective what is important for all the parties involved, while avoiding what will bring conflict (Carpenito, 2009).
