This expression is quite sound because one introducing two people at a party is usually in a unique position. Moreover, such a person must have an extra knowledge advantage concerning the two persons. In other words, the introducer also knows how the two parties are related or the connection thereof. However, these two people might not know about one another. The opening paragraph of a paper in this case is also unique because it carries the main idea of the paper. In this situation, the person introducing the paper is dealing with two elements, the reader and the actual paper contents or information. The reader/audience of the paper of which the writer ought to be aware are given a green light of the whole paper through the opening paragraph. Though such a reader may not know what the rest of the paper contains, the writer or one presenting the paper understands its contents. This is also true when introducing two people. The opening paragraph of a paper harbors the main idea or in other words, a thesis through which the rest of the paper is constructed. All the contents of the paper ought to support the thesis that is usually placed in the opening paragraph. A paper with no thesis may not considered being very relevant.
