Native Americans considered ecology and nature as some of their most significant aspects of their lifestyle. The philosophy of the American Indians towards nature, which includes, land, place, and resources, was focused on nurturing a superior relationship with the “Mother Earth.” The Native Americans considered the earth as a spiritual being and a creator that is made up of numerous natural deities (Kirwin, n.d). Therefore, land was a powerful source of tribal and cultural history that defined people’s identity, both individual and tribal.
