Part 2
Ten is the debut album for the American Rock Band, Perl Jam (1991) whose founding members included three guitarists (Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready) and a lead vocalist, Edie Vedder, who came together following the tragic end of the Mother Love Bone band. The band was initially named ‘Mookie Blaylock’ but it was later changed to Pearl Jam due to legal concerns from their record label Epic. The band members together with their producer, Rick Parashar, produced the album in Seattle based studio, London Bridge. Pearl Jam's debut album was characterized by unique and amazing features that distinctively separated them from the ordinary rock music of the '90s. It had sing-along choruses, guitar hero riffs, and drum break, giving the album a unique taste of grunge. The album kick started the band’s career on a very high note. The success of the album can be attributed to the aspects of modern-rock classics portrayed in the album singles Alive, Jeremy, and Even Flow. The album also played a major role in the discovery of Eddie Vedder, who was barely known before its release. The epitome of success for the album happened when it peaked at position 2 in the US Billboard 200 chart, with Ray Cyrus’ debut album 'Some Gave All' dominating the top of the chart for quite a remarkable period. The band was able to sell approximately 13 million copies across the United States. Some of the major hit singles from the album (Alive, Jeremy, Even Flow) won the group several awards on the MTV Video Music Awards in 1993. Nonetheless, the album became a hell of a deal and continues to impress and inspire more artists to be part of the grunge music genre since their style is dominated by an emotional mood that is pretty easy to emulate.
Alongside Nirvana's album Nevermind, Ten led to the submergence of the then-popular heavy metal music and led to the rise of a subgenre of alternative rock music, grunge. Nirvana was unable to keep up the pace with Pearl Jam that was composed of talented instrumentalists together with the well-ve...
