Technology has made the globe become as little as a village because organizations can do their businesses in any part of the world. According to Vitez (2012), "Management information systems (MIS) are complex decision support systems used by companies to enhance and improve their business operations". Every organization needs a management that is able to gather information from all sectors in order to make informed decisions on what needs to be done. Before the many inventions that have been done in technology, MIS was solely used to gather information from all departments in an organization, analyze and try to see what has to be improved. Technology has made it possible to have software that monitors all the activities in an organization and bring the data to a central location. This makes it easy to analyze what needs to be improved or discarded.
Since technology inventions are not ending, it means that MIS will be made easier by the fact that information gathering will be much simpler. Initially, companies had to rely on information that was gathered manually but things are changing very fast (Gordon, 2008). "With the globalization of the economic marketplace, companies have sought ways to improve their ability to collect and report financial information to management for effective decision-making" (Vitez, 2012). In addition it is worth noting, "software engineering comprehends several disciplines devoted to prevent and remedy malfunctions and warrant adequate behavior" (Fujita & Zualkernan, 2008. P. 51). This implies that MIS is very essential in any organization.
MIS will enable organizations in future to share information with other organizations that are in the same business. This will reduce the cost of having to send employees to other organizations in a bid to learn the best practices.
