Midsummer Night’s Dream and Othello
In the Midsummer night’s dream Theseus is preparing for his marriage to Hippolyta the queen of Amazons. The story starts in the compound of Theseus and he has ordered for a four day festival to be arranged and coordinated by Revels Philostrate. At the same time Egeus comes into the compound of Theseus with his daughter Hermia and two men; Lysander and Demetrius. Egeus wants his daughter to get married to Demetrius while Hermia wants to get married to Lysander. The theme of love dominates this story as the characters plan a wedding to marry one another to the extent of using charms to marry each other. Lysander and Hermia plan to escape and do their wedding at Lysander’s aunt’s house. They reveal their plan to Helena who happens to have been in love with Demetrius, Helena tells Demetrius of the plan of the two. They set to encounter them in the forest where the wedding is planned. At the wedding there are two other couples including Theseus and Hippolyta. They spend a night in the forest where Puck puts a charm on the eyes of the Lysander who later falls in love with Hermia greatly and Demetrius also falls in love with Helena. The two couples perform their wedding (SparkNotes Editors, 2002).

Roderigo and Lago plan to accuse Othello of stealing Barbanzios daughter by using witchcraft. However, Desdemona refuses those accusations and instead confirms to his father that she chose to get married to Othello willingly. However, the two do not stop there they go further to arrange tricks that Desdemona is cheating on Othello and Othello falls into the trap and kills Desdemona for her infidelity. Later she realises it was not true and kills himself (SparkNotes Editors, 2002).
The two stories bring out the aspect of love in different forms. Unlike the first one, the Othello’s story concentrates on the use of tricks in achieving the objective of love which do not become successful. Lago and Roderigo played the centre role in coming up with tricks in order to destroy the marriage of Othello so that Roder...
