Metaphors are figures of speech used in poetry and literature where words or phrases are used in reference to other words or phrases. Simply put, metaphors equate things that are not literally the same but are related symbolically. Writers use metaphors to relay their emotions and experiences in a way that allows a reader to visualize the ideas and this helps with memorability of content. Moreover, metaphors are ideal for adding color to language and this makes reading interesting. The aim of this essay is to analyze a passage in literature where metaphors have been used to illustrate the cruelty of life and inevitability of death.
