Medical language interpretation is a proper practice to make sure that all patients’ needs are considered in health care. Because there are many patients from different cultures visiting a particular health center, there is need to interpolate medical language for the right understanding of the healthcare provision. According to support.mchtraining.net (2015), in the United States, there are many immigrants who seek medical advice in hospitals. However, they do not speak English. These people are mostly from Bosnia, Sudan, and Somalia, who require accessing quality health care in the United States. There are programs in the US to reach out to the patients who are non-English speakers and to satisfy their medical needs adequately. There are people who are trained medical interpreters, who speak immigrants’ languages, and facilitate effective communication to help improve the quality of health care provided to all the patients.
The primary focus of medical language interpretation is to provide quality health care to patients from different linguistic backgrounds. There are scenarios where non–English speaking patients are not provided with qualified language interpretations, reducing the quality of healthcare that they receive. The first scenario is where a patient from Bosnia was not provided with qualified medical language interpretation, resulting in confusion in drug prescription. The second scenario was when a Spanish-speaking patients wanted to be treated in the health care in a USA hospital where there were no qualified medical interpreters.
