For the first time, Cassy Herkelman made headlines in 2011 as the only girl to have made a win against her male counterpart, Joel Northup in a wrestling contest in Iowa State (Greer, 2011). However, Joel did not participate in the tournament since he believed the contest was against his convictions and had to forfeit the match. While critics bashed him for his decision for not participating in the wrestling contest, others applauded him for making such a firm stand. In the contemporary society, Northup should never been exposed to such a contest in the first place.
