The desire to have a positive impact on society is the undeniable fact among many people. However, translating the desire into action is the difficult part. As a student, I have had the passion to be of value to my community. My community, in this case, refers to where I stay or spend most of my time either at school or home. Growing up, I did not like schooling. Not everything about schooling was bad but I never liked how I had to put most of my time and energy in books. Books were the source of life in my early childhood. My parents believed in studying and hardworking that yielded positive academic scores.
The rate of absenteeism in classes was high. I would identify with this as I dreaded school times. I would not wait for the holidays. Simply, the holidays meant playing my favorite games and other fun activities. I thought to myself, we can have schooling incorporated with the fun we get outside the school. So, I approached the student council to express my opinion on addressing absenteeism and increasing retention rates of students in my school. School drop-out had also become a problem in my school. I had to do something to change the trends. I did not want to be part of those leaving the school because of an issue that had viable solutions.
