Dear Senator Boyle Brandan,
I write this letter to you as a concerned representative of the people and for your keen interest in the American healthcare. This letter is to bring to your attention on the poor implementation of the Nurse and Health Care worker protection act of 2015(H.R 4266). Despite its existence and objective of enhancing safety among the care workers and guaranteeing safety of the patients several cases have been reported indicating the existence of the problem of patients and care worker safety. For instance in 2016, nurses were ranked 6th in all occupation in cases of poor working conditions. 11,360 cases of disorders were reported and 20,020 cases of injuries among health workers were reported. The cases of the injuries as per the research indicate that they were caused due to lack of facilities for instance machines for positioning patients at ease. Studies further reveal that 52% of the nurses had complained of chronic back pain and 38% suffering from severe pain that could not support them to work anymore (NHIS, 2017). This illustrates that despite the existence of the Act still the problems exist and it calls for your action as legislators to ensure that the Act is fully implemented.
The letter is written to you as you were among those members in the senate who voted yes for the Nurse and Health Care worker protection act of 2015( H.R 4266). It directs the secretary of labor on issues of occupational safety and health standards to decrease injuries to patients, health care workers and the nurses CITATION Con15 \l 1033 (Congress, 2015). This can be achieved through establishment of a safe patient handling and injury prevention standards. Among other requirements of the act is the increase in the number of health care workers to avoid cases of overworking the health care workers.
