Massive violation of people results in broken relationships and trusts, among the parties in question. On addition to that, the victims undergo psychological trauma. These, however, can never be solved by the courts alone, and that's why special bodies have to come up to foster the healing process. Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Canada aims to help the Aboriginal people heal and reconcile from the trauma they underwent during colonialism.
The acknowledgment that something happened, mining into the depth of why it occurred and putting prevention measures on it not occurring again is the best way of reconciliation. The recommendations address the needs of the Aboriginals which is an indicator that the Aboriginals suffering had been recognized, felt and acknowledged. Truth and Reconciliation Recommendations aim at letting the adversaries have an understanding of the country’s history which will subsequently decrease conflict in the future. I think it is better if this is done publicly. In this manner, the horror recognition by the nation will result in the integration of truth in the country's history which serves as a building block of the nation.
