Inequality has increased in the context of education, where country schools have differences. Some schools in Orange County, such as Santa Ana High School and Troy High schools, are used for the comparison. Even though both institutions have comparable spending per student, for instance, in regards to the number of guidance counselors and student-teacher ratio, a difference arises in the number of extracurricular activities offered by either institution (Putnam, 2016). Inequalities in education are affected by the availability of private funding.
Troy is composed of students from financially upscale backgrounds, and the populations are ethnically diverse, while for Santa Ana, most students are from poor backgrounds and are dominantly Latino and speak Spanish. Students from Santa Ana are more likely to be suspended from school, and most of them are four times more likely to drop out of school in comparison to Troy students. Most of the students at Troy are keen to spend time studying for their SAT, and also, their parents are willing to donate large amounts to the institution (Putnam, 2016).
