You have already read several assignments that have prepared you to write a one-page (single-spaced) document that explains the design of your degree for prospective or current employers and/or graduate or professional school admissions officers.
Your job in this document is to make others believe that you chose Interdisciplinary Studies as part of a well-thought-out educational plan. Discuss the value of your minors or any other pattern or groupings in the courses you have taken. What makes your degree plan different from all others? Sell or frame your degree; believe in the education you have received. Be confident.
You must limit your document to one page, using single-spacing, but double-spacing between each paragraph (the basic style for business or professional documents). Your argument/explanation should consist of three or four paragraphs that illustrate, in a coherent and engaging manner, the depth and focus of your personal degree design. You need to think of concrete, specific examples that will help you illustrate your points. For example, instead of just saying that you have a minor in Family and Consumer Sciences, you should connect that minor to specific skills that you have gained. If there are important projects that you have completed for specific courses, feel free to highlight these. Don’t use course numbers and titles—for example, FACS 470—for your reader won’t know what FACS 470 means. Refer to content areas, such as management, organizational psychology, family and consumer science studies. Your paper should focus on the knowledge and skills you learned from pursuing this degree. Everyone in Interdisciplinary Studies has a completely different degree. Explain what you took and learned from yours.
