Hurricane Strike
A hurricane strike is defined as any hurricane force or winds that affect a coastal area independent of whether a hurricane makes landfall. If a hurricane passes within a given distance to a coast, it is referred to as a hurricane strike. Hurricanes in West Indies were always named after people most notably saint’s days. For instance, Hurricane San Felipe and Hurricane San Felipe the second which struck Puerto Rico in the 18th Century on 13, September 1876 and 1928 consecutively. Famous hurricanes include the Galveston hurricane, which is described as one of the largest disasters in regards to the number of lives lost (Hurricane Strike). The hurricane had 120 mile/hr and generated 20-feet deep storm surge that swept an entire island killing not less than 6, 000 people. Another famous hurricane named Andrew although descried as relatively small had winds of 145miles/hour. Then, the hurricane caused devastating effects on many Florida communities as close to 60, 00 homes were destroyed and 200,000 people were left homeless.
Hurricane Floyd struck North Carolina leading to many deadly floods which got all the way to England. The hurricane killed a total of 56 people. Its collision with a cold front in the United sates resulted in intense rains that later caused deadly floods. Other hurricanes include Hugo, and Erin all of which have led to deaths of various people and destruction of property.
