Hello. The essay should be written based on the book " A wizard of Earthsea " Ursula K. Le Guin.The main theme is " Ged and Shadow". For Ged, the evil comes into his life through his Pride comes to being as the shadow. Ged constant battle with the shadow. How does Ged overcome his pride. at the ending of Chapter 10, when Ged faces the shadow and we learn that they share the same name. This is kind of surprising ending, because instead the killing evil force, Ged seems to absorb it – as if his shadow were part of him. What's up with that ending? How do you feel about it? do you think that Le Guin has a good point here – that we can't always kill off the part of ourselves that we don't like?. The essay structure is introduction, 1st body point, 2 b.p., 3 b.p. and conclusion. All together 5 paragraphs. Conclusion will summarize all body points. Ursula K. Le Guin is renowned for several publications including “A Wizard of EarthSeaâ€Β. It is notable that the story in question revolves around Ged and depicts the character as an individual who is full of pride. Specifically, the author depicts a proud person, as an individual who thinks knows all, but does not know that he still has much to learn. Critical to the debate is the reality that much of the pride in Ged is present at the beginning of the story, but slowly shades away as the story progresses. Additionally, Ged’s pride is evident in both his character and actions. However, Ged is exposed to life learning lessons that help him overcome his pride. For instance, the people of Low Toning notice that Ged is not proud of himself (Le, Mitchell, and Lupton, 2012). This indicates that Ged’s level of pride is reducing progressively. By overcoming his pride and accepting his true self, Ged defeats his shadow because the two merge to become one Ged.
As mentioned earlier, Ged’s pride is present in his character. For instance, Ged had a perception that he would be a great man at the beginning of the story. This owes to the fact that other children praised him for his magical ability while his aunt and teacher feared him for such powers (Le, Mitchell, and Lupton, 2012). Further, Ged’s character emerges as proud when the Kargs attack his village. It is because Ged performs magic beyond his training and knowledge for fear that he could die before achieving anything (Le, Mitchell, and Lupton, 2012). Evidence, of pride in Ged’s character is also present when Ged leaves with Ogion because Ged thought he would easily master the mystery of magical powers, which was not the case. Towards the end of the story, Ged is portrayed as a humble person. For instance, Ged and Vetch refrain from using magic when sailing because they don’t want to upset the balance of nature (Le, Mitchell, and Lupton, 2012). This is a transformation, because at the beginning of the story Ged could perform magic just for show off.
