Introduction
The book, Forget Shorter Showers was written by Derrick Jensen and published on 8th July 2009. The book elaborates explicitly on environmental conservation strategies. On the other hand, waste Not, Want Not was written and published by McKibben in 1992. This book majorly explains various ways of solving the problem of water shortages. These two books represent the opposite of each other. This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between the two books.
Derrick Jensen, in his book, criticizes the idea of water conservation in households. In his book, he explains that the shortage of water supply results from unsustainable water use at the household level. Derrick further proposes that those in authority reduce the utilization of water resources. He poses whether to reduce the time he spends in the shower to curb the existing water shortage. On the contrary, McKibben (557) gives an entirely different opinion about his fellow author by insinuating that members in the households connected with water learn how to use it economically.
Additionally, the two authors apply different areas as far as their subject of discussion is concerned. In his book, Derrick Jensen (1) focuses on the United States as his discussion area. He argues that the greatest form of waste is from the government premises. On the other hand, McKibben (557) argues that the municipal sector uses California's greatest source of waste products.
Evidence from McKibben’s Waste Not, Want Not to shows that the book covers water conservation in urban areas to promote water supply and ensure that aquifers of water are continuously charging. On the contrary, Jensen (1) explains that reducing the time in the shower will have little effect on the increase of water in the water table. Jensen does not blame the household for the water shortage.
