Companies that produce GMO (genetically modified organism) products are asked to declare if what they are selling contain ingredients with GMO. However, an average shopper cannot easily access disclosures and instead of having all products mandated with a label to describe if each one has GMO, the lobbyists let the producers to indicate it. These are what food packages have, or sometimes they have a code that leads consumers to a web site that contains important information when a smartphone is used for scanning.
By giving consumers this kind of access, they can easily shop for GMO or non-GMO products right away even if they have never heard of the product before. Furthermore, QR codes for pointing consumers to disclosures can open a wide range of information on how food is produced, packed, and sold. In addition, they are able to make a new brand for sustaining advocates so that companies are pushed to become more responsible.
The production of food requires healthy crops, but lately climate change has been affecting it. As a conscious citizen, there are ways a person can do to help climate change. If a car is not badly needed, another mode of transportation is a bicycle, train, bus, and others that produce less carbon dioxide (Acciona web site, 2018). It is easy to estimate how much a person will eat in 1 meal, which is a good reason for him or her to avoid throwing food away. About 40% of the food supply in the U.S. goes to waste. This means that with all of the energy, fertilizer, land, water, and additional resources required for growing, transporting, preparing, and storing food are also wasted (NRDC, 2017). When food is brought to the landfill, it slowly changes to methane, which is a strong pollutant to climate.
The government should help in reducing climate change, which means they need to act on measures to have a better sustainable life. Everyone should promote recyclable energy, proper labelling of products, labels that indicate origin of food, and better public transportation. They should also show others that using a bicycle and other transportation that are non-pollutants is best.
On the business side, companies that see the opportunity for business will say more about the GMO contents. I...
