Profile essays are a useful way to communicate information about an interesting person, place, or thing. Authors of these pieces strive to allow their readers to fully imagine the particular experience they focused on, describing in detail what they observed first hand. Because of their descriptive and engaging nature, profiles can be found in a variety of popular sources, including books, magazines, and newspapers, as well as in academic sources where they can take the form of ethnographic studies.
For this assignment, you are to write a profile about a restaurant/eatery that you have recently visited/eaten from OR about a specific food/cuisine. Make sure to observe/“research” your subject closely and provide any information about it that may be interesting to someone who has little to no knowledge of it. Then, present your observations and overall experience in an essay that proves engaging and informative to the readers.
Audience:
Write your profile in a way that would be interesting and informative to your peers (college students around your age) and/or those who have recently graduated college. To effectively speak to your audience, you’ll likely want to adopt a less formal tone as you narrate your experience with the restaurant/eatery.  
Genre:
Broadly speaking, profile essays require writers to observe an unfamiliar subject that they are endeavoring to understand better. Authors present information using first person narrative to communicate their observations and to highlight what they learned. Profiles often require some background research into the subject being studied and may include dialogue.

Your profile should be 1,000-1,200 words long.

Mama’s Fish House blends their best food, service, and ambiance to make it every visitor’s experience. It is a world’s famous restaurant that features fresh fish delivered daily by their local fishermen. The ocean-to-plate freshest fish at Mama’s will leave you satiated. The huge restaurant located on the North Shore of Maui, and easily accessible from the Road to Hana, has mastered the art of service. The staff greets you in a welcoming and professional manner and it is easy to tell that Mama’s is a popular restaurant. While my friends and I had to wait for about 15 minutes after making a reservation, it was worth the wait. This is where the excellent ambiance at the eatery comes into play. Instead of sitting to wait, you may choose to wander back to the front of the restaurant with a fantastic view of the beach. Having a memorable time taking photos while waiting for your meal at the bar area is a great way to enjoy your visit to Mama’s. Mama’s Fish House is a place to visit to enjoy quality food, excellent service, and great ambiance that leaves unforgettable memories with friends and relatives.
When it comes to the servers at Mama’s, there is no room for disappointment as they will help in explaining the different types of unique menus depending on the visitors. I have been there twice and I remember one time I went with two of my friends who are on gluten-free diets. On this day with my buddies, we had to ensure that the aspect of gluten-free foods was noted on our reservation, but before we could remind the servers, we were informed that the requirement had already been taken care of. The server broke down the menu to use in a truly impressive way, especially explaining gluten-free foods they had in the menu. The servers understand each ingredient in the dishes at Mama’s. the servers informed us that besides the restaurant management printing a fresh menu every day, they include in the list the type of fish they will be serving on that particular day, the island it was caught, as well as the name of the local fisherman. This is something I have never experienced before. Furthermore, the cocktail menu and the full bar will let you enjoy whatever you want and Mama’s has an extensive overview of the best offerings. My favorite is guava fizz, a classic gin fizz made from guava nectar and lemon juice with either simple syrup or sugar, and it’s readily available. A few minutes of waiting and servers informed us that the food is ready. While the lobster and Mahi-Mahi might cost as much as $62, it is truly a dish you can look forward to eating and it won’t disappoint.
