Which conflict does Wilson use most to drive (bring forth, move forward) all the other elements of the story?
In August Wilson's Fences, there is a major conflict of Troy versus family and especially his son Cory who intends to play college football against his father’s wishes. There is also conflict with Rose Maxson, his wife and mother of Cory, while Troy’s relationship with Lyons Maxson his first son with another woman is on and off. There is a strained father-son relationship between Troy and Cory as Troy’s past disappointments lead him to dissuade Cory from pursuing sports. Troy believed that Cory would be discriminated against and have nothing to show for playing college football. Troy works as a garbage collector and regrets that his baseball talented since he did not get an opportunity because of racism against African Americans, and he lives with regret and internal struggle. Troy tells Rose “The white man ain't gonna let him get nowhere with that foo...
