In this story, the author Suki Kim id describing her own story, as a result, the story is her autobiography. The most significant part of this story is found in page 62, where she describes her life in middle school. This was the time her father was declared bankrupt, and everything was taken from the family. Due to family bankruptcy in 1980s, the girl was moved to New York, where she was forced to adopt to a new culture and language.
