Partial Analysis- Fall of The House of Usher
The fall of the house of Usher is a story written by Edgar Allan Poe that has demonstrated his skillful literary artist capability. It is an article with a lot of ambiguity, trepidation, and fear, having discussed so many horror scenarios of reality. The composition approach seems to be critical in having Poe experiment with his technique of fluid form implied. Where the story carries out two theories together that is: unity and completeness which enables Poe to accomplish his goal of design as we are going to discuss.
Regarding the ambiguity, the narrator has left out so many scenarios vague or unclear for the reader to interpret. Madeline’s death and her return, for example, are so much surrounded by ambiguity, that the reader is left wondering, whether she was buried alive or did she resurrect. Even Usher at some point is seen suspecting that they had buried her while she was still alive: "...I hear it, and have heard it…Many minutes, many hours, many days, have I heard it...yet I dared not speak! We have put her living in the tomb!" which cause apprehension and fear to both narrator and him. Additionally, the narrator’s explanation of the causes of the illness comes out to the writer indistinctly. One cannot tell, whether the disease is intergenerational or has been caused by the environmental background that the family usually subjects themselves to.
