I. Introduction
In modern society, a majority of road accidents and fatalities are facilitated by reckless drivers. Most drivers spend a minimum of one or two hours behind the wheel of a vehicle each day, commuting to school, work, or indulging in other activities. For most individuals, driving is an easy task – as routine as having a meal. Unfortunately, being overconfident while driving is a misguided feeling since driving is a dangerous activity that requires undivided attention. The most common dangerous habits are distracted driving, speeding, failing to signal, applying makeup while driving, and the unpredicted behavior of students.
II. Discussion
As observed, the most common dangerous habit exhibited by drivers is distracted driving. I have witnessed many drivers eating and driving, texting and driving, and making phone calls while driving. All these are activities that take drivers’ eyes and minds off the road. At times, there are instances where drivers cannot see the car in front of them because they are yelling at their children or trying to catch up with the virtual world online.
Speeding is also a dangerous habit that is prevalent among drivers. From my observation, many individuals run late when bringing their children to school. So, to take a couple of minutes off their travel time, they resort to speeding. At face value, speeding seems like a safe choice for drivers who are not adept in keeping time.
