In How to Read a Paper; Statistics for the Non-Statistician II: ‘Significant’ Relations and Their Pitfalls, Trisha Greenhalgh has provided a checklist of questions that can be used to check whether a particular paper is statistically valid and authentic or not (Greenhalgh, 1997). It is also said that the association of two variables can be casual depending on whether or not it is strong, specific, consistent and plausible. This needs to follow a logical time sequence and has to indicate a dose-response gradient.
