Introduction
The term ‘learning styles’ imply that every person has a unique way of learning. Generally, learning styles are based on numerous preferences and take on a variety of forms. The common learning styles are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Among these styles, some learners have a dominant style that they prefer. However, others may mix the three styles depending on what they are learning about. Regardless, there is no right mix of learning style nor is a student’s style of learning fixed because there are numerous overlaps between the styles. However, the teacher must identify the right style depending on his/her students before disseminating information.
Auditory learning style
In the auditory learning style, students learn best by listening. As a result, video clips, music, lectures, and conversations are the ideal learning mechanisms for auditory learners. Auditory learning style can be enhanced by using the traditional school environment where the teacher speaks while the students listen and write notes (Kayalar & Kayalar, 2017). In the case of a struggling student, the auditory learning style requires teachers to repeat severally and encourage the students to talk through the problem. Auditory learners have the following characteristics; speak frequently, express emotions and attitudes through tone, enjoy discussions and debates, struggle to concentrate in a noisy environment, and are musically minded. Therefore, when integrating auditory learning style into the classroom, the teacher should focus on having learners’ verbalize the questions and concepts, encourage brainstorming and discussions, read loud and begin each new subject or topic with an explanation and conclude with a summary.
