Descriptive Statistics (Essay Sample)

Consider this scenario: You are on the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation. Two different research labs are working on treatments. Your responsibility is to review and evaluate both of the results from the research studies and make recommendations for future funding. You can only fund one of the two. Patients and their families are anxiously waiting for the Board of Directors to make a decision which of the two can be funded. Part I. Your first task it to do the following calculations for both of the results that have been submitted to you. Mean Median Mode Range Standard Deviation (are there outliners you should consider?) Number of weeks that patients felt better: Group I results = 3, 5, 6, 6, 8, 9, 9, 9, 10, 11, 45 Group II results = 3, 4, 7, 9, 9, 9, 15, 15, 16, 17, 17 Part II. After you have done this comparison, write a letter to the rest of the members of the board stating which group you are recommending to receive additional funding to support their research. This should be done in Memo Format and you need to discuss your findings and compare them. You can include a table to show the comparison if you want to. Do not be concerned with the small number used in each group in the study. ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS: Please read before completing assignments. National Kidney Foundation Name: Institution: Part 1 Based on several calculations evaluations and analysis, of the two labs that have the interest in the kidney research, the following are the results (Math Is Fun, 2013). These results are not biased in any way and are a genuine evaluation of the labs abilities in the research sector, which will greatly improve how the patients are treated for kidney ailments not just in this hospital but in the entire medical field. Group one calculations are as follows; The mean of the number of times that the lab has excelled in their treatment are: (3+5+6+6+8+9+9+9+10+11+45)/10 =11 The median; the middle number is 9 as such; it is the median. The mode of the first group is 9. The range of this group is (45-3) = 42 While the standard deviation of this group is 11.52389 Group two calculations are as follows; The mean of the number of times that this second group has excelled while treating kidney diseases, making the patients satisfied is: Mean: (3+4+7+9+9+9+15+15+16+17+17)/11=11 The median for the group is 9 as it is in the middle of the series. The mode of the group is also 9 The range of the group is (17-3) = 14 While the standard deviation of the group is 5.19615 Part 2 MeanMedianMode Range Standard deviation Group 111994211.52389Group 21199145.19615 Memo National Kidney Foundation One Bowling Green, 5th floor New York, NY 14532.
