Describe the world you come from and how you, as a product of it, might add to the diversity of
the UW.
Some time ago, at a dinner table with a friend, my friend asked me: mark, how much influence your parents have had on you since you grew up. As we kept talking my parents joined in the conversation they did not address the issue directly, but urged me to do my best, and at the moment, I had longed to meet new people beyond those I was used to and learn more. Time flies. I remember the midsummer when I was 15 years old. It was the only time that I confronted my father. As I graduated from high school and only fourteen or fifteen years old I enquired whether he was willing to send me to an unfamiliar place. As an entrepreneur used to controlling things and making major decisions on his own, it was difficult for him to let go. However, he agreed reluctantly and sent me to American high school to study, and during the Christmas holiday I went back home and this was my first time seeing him cry. There I was looking homesick having being lonely away from my close family and friends.
Without moving out of my comfort zone, I probably would be overwhelmed trying to deal with some challenges. When I first moved to the US faced difficulties making genuine connections and this was worsened by language issues and culture shock. I learned not to let an opportunity to pass by, and I even became more responsibility, now that I had to make decisions more independently choices have consequences, and one needs to communicate clearly and not make assumptions about others.
