Describe Managing Stakeholders for a Project
To manage stakeholders, you must first identify who they are and what their issues are. Demonstrate your understanding of stakeholders by completing this exercise.
Project stakeholders are those groups, people or organizations who sponsor a project or might be affected by its outcome. Their issues include all the project operations and activities that affect them in one way or another, and their perspectives have to be taken into account for a project to be successful (Friedman and Miles, 2006). They include the project manager, customer, project team members, the project management team, sponsor and the performing organization. There are two types of stakeholders; primary stakeholders are those groups or people who are directly affected either negatively or positively by the actions or outcomes of the project. On the other hand, secondary stakeholders are those groups or people that are indirectly affected by the project’s actions and outcomes (Thayer, 2007).
Using the Web and other venues of your choice, find an article or news item that describes how stakeholders affected the success or failure of a project.
The article describes a software development project done by Oracle to design and develop a software system for Montaclair State University. The stakeholders for this project included designers, project managers, and the end users of the system (Kanaracus, 2011).
