What would be the best type of arguments in linguistics?
Although some linguists do write conceptual theoretical papers with minimal linguistic data, such papers are very challenging to write well. Instead, most linguistics papers need adequate linguistic data for any argument.
Therefore if you can find linguistic data to support your arguments it would be ideal. You may even suggest possible data to collect to further the research.
However, given the short time alloted for writing the paper, you may not have enough time to gather data, and therefore it would be completely fine if your arguments can be made without too much reliance on linguistic data.
However, it may be helpful to keep in mind that linguistics is an empirical science, and arguments in linguistics are often approached quite differently from disciplines in the humanities. Research methods in linguistics are often similar to social sciences.

Ideographic Myth is the notion that the Chinese language that shows a concept in which the language appeals to someone by the use of symbols which bypass restrictive intermediate of speech. The system of writing in the Chinese characters is photogenic thus more intriguing than the normal ideographic system of speech. The concept originated from western intellectuals that became fascinated by the art of catholic missionaries in the sixteenth century.

The Egyptian hieroglyphic writing is a type of writing technique that used alphabetic, ideological and syllabic elements in ancient Egypt. It is easy to compare Egyptian hieroglyphics to Chinese writing but there is a difference. Chinese writing can be considered to be a two-step process the prewriting and real writing. The images are arranged in and to the human eye, they might not make any sense but collectively, they spell out the real message the speaker intends to say.

During this period of time, many cultures used symbols in their writing t0o convey messages but they each varied from the Chinese, North American Indians, and the Egyptians. This comes to the differences in the pictographs between the communities. The pictographs of the North American Indians’ writing differed in that the symbols did not directly represent specific sounds. The pictographs are not formal either and they require interpretation besides the person the message was intended to. Their writings contain meager information as compared to the Sumerian Egyptian Chinese wiring during the Shang dynasty which had vast knowledge.

The quote describes the change that happened in writing, from the first stage to the second change. This evolution in writing happens in stages where in the first stage, the symbols are used to represent the idea of whatever is drawn. In the second stage, however, the symbols are being used but using another principle where symbols cease to represent the actual exact object drawn. The full systems of writing being talked about have the symbols being more ideographic than phonetic.
