Tar Essay #2: Critical Race Theory
Consider Tara Yosso’s Critical Race Counterstories along the Chicana/Chicano Educational Pipeline. Opponents of CRT note that its beliefs are, of course, untestable, and as such, one has no choice but to accept or reject CRT outright, not based on empirical, rational reflection, but on one’s emotional reaction to the fictional, highly subjective “evidence” that is the basis on which all CRT claims are supported: the counterstory; moreover, such critics contend that CRT, rather than promoting positive change, reinforces racial and ethnic stereotypes by rejecting logical thought in favor of anecdotal evidence. How do you respond to these criticisms? Is CRT invalid because its tenets are largely untestable? Explain.
Additionally, your essay should include a critical analysis of the film we watched in class, Freedom Writers, through the theoretical lens of CRT. One way to integrate the film into your essay is to use it to test the validity of CRT.
tl;dr Is it okay that Yosso uses stories rather than empirical evidence to prove her points?

Critical Race Theory
Introduction
The Critical Race Theory is mostly ignored in daily lives and seen as irrelevant in literature, though an individual’s race and racism as a whole are of great importance in understanding the educational system. Critical Race Theory explains that, racial inequality arises from differences in legal, economic and social factors. A gap is created between the white people and the minority communities hence, giving rise to poverty and criminal activities amongst. Yosso brings together the Critical Race Theory and ‘counterstory’ method with the use of Chicana/ Chicano characters to bring out the theory. These provide a powerful mechanism that can be used to expose, analyze and challenge any incidences of racial privilege that are evident in the education system. The Theory to some extent is true but critics put across it are evident that Yosso has used stories to prove points rather than clear evidence. The following discussion explains the critics put across Critical Race Theory as evident in the film ‘Freedom Writers’
As evident in the film’ Freedom Writers’, CRT prioritize on a person’s race over the social class of the individual. Furthermore, it does not consider other identities like an individual’s gender and any other forms of oppression. Therefore, not unable to connect to other important factors such as production modes which makes the theory limited in explaining different cases of racism that relate to movements and developments in the process of accumulating capital. In addition, CRT idea of white supremacy is somehow misplaced due to its essentialist. CRT asserts that the education policy is made in such a way that white people are termed as a special group in related positions of power and any privilege provided. It is my belief that CRT provides confusion to different movements of people in relation to everyday practices by capitalists.
Critical Race Theory cannot be used to resolve racism issue in the West, since it applies the negative approaches of the theory with an inclusion of race, power and law in order to pursuit equality in race and ethnicity. Therefore, a conviction to the Western Society for failing to identify values such as equality and liberty, due to ethnic and racial oppression in the society. The pursuit of racial emancipation and reduced subordination through the critical theory is a false idea of explaining differences in race and hence the values of people in the West, with an alternative which seems to be more liberating and acts against the effects on social interactions. It is important to note that, emphasis on the political view of racism and ethnicity is baseless, since the tenets of Critical Race Theory reflect the values of people in the West against themselves and not a source of alternative to act as an opposition to replace the oppression and subordination to humanity as evidence in the West. Other factors such as consumerism, pollution and capitalist exploitation are not considered.
The fact that CRT emphasizes on utilization of and other techniques in literature that run from post-structural and postmodern scholarships as a base of argument, it undermines ra...
